چکیده

In order to assessing whether algae can reduce the pollution concentration of the effluents by absorbing the nutrients, it is found that effluents can effectively be treated by employing algal organisisms such as Oscillatoria and Stigeoclonium species and these organisms are frequently found in the polluted waters and they were recorded as pollution tolerant forms. In the laboratory procedures out of the several media tested Modified CHU No. 10 medium was found to be quite suitable for both the test organisms. It was found that up to 87% and 85% of phosphate uptake was achieved by Oscillatoria and Stigeoclonium respectively with 13% and 16% increase of D.O. in the effluents by the tenth day. In case of organic matter Oscillatoria removed 73% and Stigeoclonium 70% up to tenth day.

The removal of uranium from mining waste water using algal/microbial biomass.

We describe a three step process for the removal of uranium (U) from dilute waste waters. Step one involves the sequestration of U on, in, and around aquatic plants such as algae. Cell wall ligands efficiently remove U(VI) from waste water. Growing algae continuously renew the cellular surface area. Step 2 is the removal of U-algal particulates from the water column to the sediments. Step 3 inv...

Bioremediation of Heavy Metals through Fresh Water Microalgae: A Review

Industrial development has created a serious problem by emitting waste water containing many different kinds of pollutants including heavy metals. There are several chemical and physical processes for heavy metals removal but bioremediation technology has also good prospect. As the waste water from different industries is deposited in the rivers nearby so aquatic flora are needed to be studied ...

Sustainable algal biomass products by cultivation in waste water flows

Algae are predicted to play an important role in tomorrow’s bioeconomy. The technical goal of the project was to develop enhanced algal cultivation processes utilising waste flows and to increase the overall material and energy efficiency of algal processing for biodiesel and biogas production. The project produced new knowledge on the boundary conditions for cost efficient algal cultivation an...

Nitrogen, phosphorus, and eutrophication in the coastal marine environment.

The distribution of inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus and bioassay experiments both show that nitrogen is the critical limiting factor to algal growth and eutrophication in coastal marine waters. About twice the amount of phosphate as can be used by the algae is normally present. This surplus results from the low nitrogen to phosphorus ratio in terrigenous contributions, including human waste, ...

The Effect of CO2 on Algal Growth in Industrial Waste Water for Bioenergy and Bioremediation Applications

The energy, mining and mineral processing industries are point sources of metal-contaminated waste water and carbon dioxide (CO2). Freshwater macroalgae from the genus Oedogonium can be grown in metal-contaminated waste water to generate biomass for bioenergy applications and concomitantly bioremediate metals. However, interactions between CO2 addition and algal growth, which can affect bioreme...
